Where to Stay

We have a room block in Burlingame close to our home and wedding venue, but recognize that many want to take advantage of the beautiful city of San Francisco.

Burlingame

Westin in blue; Wedding in yellow; Brunch in Red. San Francisco is the tip of the thumb; North Bay (hiking, Sausalito) is above that, and East Bay (Berkeley) is to the right.

Very close to the SFO airport, the Burlingame Westin is convenient to both the wedding at Kohl Mansion and the Sunday brunch at our home, and also just a 15-30 minute ride to San Francisco if you plan to squeeze in some sightseeing!

You can read more about the hotel and reserve from the block here for the nights of Friday May 19 and Saturday May 20.

Burlingame also has a great downtown on Burlingame Avenue (not walkable from the hotel) - it’s our go-to for a satisfying dinner or dessert.

San Francisco

If you are considering making a longer visit out of your trip to our beautiful city - or just wish to get more of an urban vibe during your weekend here - there are loads of great neighborhoods in San Francisco proper.

We’ve highlighted a few of the neighborhoods where you might consider staying; not all of them have good hotel options, but they all have AirBNBs. Or reach out to us for additional questions.

Union Square

This is the shopping core of San Francisco, with many large hotel options to choose from. It has fairly good public transit to many of the different neighborhoods, but know that if you have a car, parking can get expensive. It is also right on the cable car line, and a long stroll to the Embarcadero waterfront shopping and food options.

Japantown

There are a few hotel options here and lots of yummy food and bakeries - be sure to check out Jane the Bakery. This also used to be the center of the jazz scene in the area, that portion of the neighborhood has been largely redeveloped, though The Fillmore concert venue is still going strong, and though the Cherry Blossom Festival will have wrapped up in April, there may still be some beautiful trees about.

Castro

It doesn’t get much gayer than this: though much smaller than New York City’s Hells Kitchen, it’s also much more concentrated - which can be either a draw, or a reason to avoid. There are many coffee shops, a few good restaurants, and many bars, all in a few small blocks. Not much in the way of hotels, but loads of AirBNB options. Right on several MUNI (public transit) lines so easy to get to other parts of The City.

Noe Valley

Just a few steep blocks up, and then back down, from the Castro, Noe Valley also has lots of great coffee and food options, but with fewer uncomfortably-tight rubber pants. Like The Castro, the only options to stay here are in AirBNBs. It’s not quite as well served by public transit, and - as it’s a valley - it can be a steep walk to other parts of the city, but street parking is a bit easier, and it’s definitely a great location for a weekend stay.

Hayes Valley

With the advantages of cute stores and coffee shops like Noe Valley, the central location like Union Square, easy access to the freeway, and noticeably warmer weather than some of the other neighborhoods, Hayes Valley has a lot going for it. Come here if you want to see locals pushing their dogs - and occasional cats - in strollers.
